Hentunen, Tuorla Observatory; and A. Pastorello, Queen's University, Belfast, report that they obtained a low-resolution spectrum of SN 2009Q (cf. CBET 1675) on Feb. 12.2 UT with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC; range 350-900 nm). The spectrum of 2009Q shows it to be a normal type-Ia supernova a couple of days past maximum light. Adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 7676 km/s (Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438), the Si II 635.5-nm absorption minimum is measured to be blue-shifted by roughly 11000 km/s. The measured R-band magnitude of 16.1 for 2009Q corresponds to an absolute magnitude of -19.0, assuming a distance of 105 Mpc (H_o = 73.00 km/s/Mpc).
