Morrell, Las Campanas Observatory (LCO), on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that a spectrogram (range 380-940 nm) of supernova 2009K (cf. CBET 1665), taken on Jan. 22 UT with the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay) telecope (+ LDSS3), reveals that this object is a type-IIb supernova. Comparison with a library of spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows this event to be most similar to supernova 1993J a few days prior to maximum. This is confirmed with a spectrogram taken on Feb. 8, which is most similar to 1993J at two weeks past maximum. Stritzinger, Morrell, and M. Phillips (also LCO) add that they have obtained spectra (range 403-1011.2 nm) of 2009Z (cf. CBET 1685) on Feb. 11.1 and 15.1 with the 6.5-m Magellan I (BAADE) telecope (+ IMACS). Cross- correlation with SNID shows these spectra to be most similar to those of SN 1993J at two days before and three days after maximum, respectively.
