Morrell, and F. Salgado, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report they obtained a spectrogram (range 402.7-1011 nm) of 2009ap (cf. CBET 1712), obtained on Mar. 16.1 UT with the Magellan I BAADE (+ IMACS) telescope, appears to be that of a type-Ic supernova several weeks past maximum. Adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 6230 km/s (H I Parkes All-Sky Survey Final Catalog; Wong et al. 2006, MNRAS 371, 1855) for the host galaxy (ESO 138-27), Fe II (rest 516.9 nm) and O I (rest 777.4 nm) are measured to be blue-shifted by roughly 5600 and 6700 km/s, respectively.
