Morrell, and F. Salgado, Las Campanas Observatory (LCO); and G. Folatelli, Millennium Center for Supernova Science, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that they have obtained spectra (range 380-920 nm) of 2009bb (cf. CBET 1731) on Mar. 28.1, Mar. 29.1, and Apr. 3.1 UT with the LCO's du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD). The spectrum consists of shallow features that are characteristic of a young, broad-line type-Ic supernova. The spectra are reminiscent of the earliest observations of SN 1997ef (Garnavich et al. 1997, IAUC 6778). Shallow absorption features at the locations of the Fe II multiplet 42 (492.4-516.9 nm), Na I D, Si II (rest 635 nm), O I (rest 777.4 nm), and the Ca II near- infrared triplet are discernable and have grown slightly in strength. V-band magnitudes from LCO for 2009bb: Mar. 24, 16.71; 25, 16.47; 27, 16.07. E. Prosperi, Larciano, Italy, reports the following unfiltered CCD magnitude for 2009bb: Mar. 30.541 UT, 15.4.
