Electronic Telegram No. 1755 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, R. Williams, M. J. Graham, and A. Mahabal, California Institute of Technology; E. C. Beshore, S. M. Larson, and R. Kowalski, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the CRTS (cf. CBET 1744) discovery of a supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2009cy Mar. 18.20 9 40 55.44 + 1 16 08.3 17.2 2".7 W, 3".4 N Further CSS magnitudes for 2009cy: Jan. 17.53 UT, [20.0; Feb. 2.31, 17.0; 14.42, 16.9; 19.27, 17.1; Mar. 31.22, 17.3. The apparent host galaxy, SDSS J094055.62+011604.9, has Gunn magnitudes u = 21.5, g = 20.6, r = 20.3, i = 20.2, and z = 19.8. A confirming spectrogram (range 380-900 nm) was taken with the SMARTS 1.5-m telescope on Mar. 26; with the aid of the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), 2009cy is found to be a type-IIP supernova, its spectrum similar to that of SN 2006bp.
