Electronic Telegram No. 1874 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2009hd IN M66 Further to CBET 1867, H. Yamaoka, Kyushu University, reports the following pre- and post-discovery unfiltered CCD magnitudes by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) obtained with 50-cm and 60-cm reflectors: June 23.480 UT, 17.2; 26.498, 16.3; July 5.486, 16.1. M. M. Kasliwal, California Institute of Technology; and D. K. Sahu and G. C. Anupama, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, report that a low-resolution spectrogram (range 350-900 nm), taken in poor weather conditions on July 8.703 UT with the Hanle Faint Object Spectrograph Camera on the 2-m Himalayan Chandra Telescope, indicates that 2009hd (cf. CBET 1867) is a reddened type-II supernova. The only prominent feature is a two- component H-alpha emission (broad and narrow) that is consistent with the redshift of M66; the gaussian FWHM of this feature corresponds to a velocity of approximately 5000 km/s.
