H. Parker, S. Sadavoy, and A. J. Maxwell, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Victoria; and D. D. Balam, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (National Research Council of Canada), report that a noisy spectrum (range 390-703 nm, resolution 0.3 nm) of 2009ij (cf. CBET 1922), obtained on Sept. 1.28 UT with the 1.82-m Plaskett Telescope of the National Research Council of Canada, shows it to be a type-II supernova several days past maximum. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2009ij is most similar to the type-II supernova 1999em at two days past maximum light.
