IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2009ju IN UGC 3285 Further to CBET 1969, X. Parisky, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2009ju Oct. 11.51 5 18 54.84 +19 10 11.5 18.2 20".5 W, 10".8 S Nothing was visible at this position on a co-added KAIT image from Oct. 1 to 6, to limiting mag 19.2. J. Brimacombe (Cairns, Australia) reports a confirmation of the new object at mag 18.9 in a co-added image (limiting mag 20.5) from six 600-s luminance-filtered images taken remotely with a 0.5-m telescope located near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A. on Oct. 12.33 UT. A similar co-added image taken on Oct. 13.7 with a 0.4-m reflector at Cairns (limiting mag 20) shows 2009ju at mag 19.0. Brimacombe measured identical position end figures for the new object, with offset 19" east [sic] and 10" south. Li confirms that the object is west and not east of the core of UGC 3285.
