Drescher, Calamvale, Queensland, Australia, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag 16.8) by Stuart Parker (Oxford, Canterbury, New Zealand) on unfiltered CCD images taken with a 35-cm Celestron C14 f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector (+ ST8 CCD camera) on Oct. 23.660 and 24.57-24.65 UT. From measurements by Drescher (using Astrometrica with the USNO-B1.0 catalogue), the new object is located at R.A. = 10h07m56s.75 +/- 0s.01, Decl. = -35o13'59".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 22" east and 13" south of the nucleus of the galaxy IC 2548. Nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey images from 1992 Mar. 29 (limiting red magnitude 20.2) and 1993 Apr. 30 (limiting infrared magnitude 20.1).
