LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 16.6 +/- 0.3) on an unfiltered image taken on Nov. 16.14 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 1' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present at mag approximately 16.1 +/- 0.3 in an image taken on Nov. 17.01, is located at R.A. = 2h09m17s.14 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -23o24'44".8 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 15".4 west and 10".0 north of the center of the galaxy ESO 478-6. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Oct. 9.19 and Nov. 9.16 (limiting mag 18.5).
