Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 16.0) on a 20-s unfiltered CCD frame taken on Feb. 5.634 UT using a 0.30-m f/7.8 reflector (+ Bitran BT-214E camera) at the Takanezawa station, Tochigi-ken; Itagaki confirmed the new object at mag 15.9 on Feb. 6.568. SN 2010U is located at R.A. = 12h15m41s.06, Decl. = +36d20'02".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 20" east and 27" north of the center of NGC 4214. Nothing is visible at this position on Itagaki's image from Jan. 24.74 (limiting mag 18.0) or on the Digitized Sky Survey. His discovery image is posted at the following website URL: http://www.k-itagaki.jp/images/psn-4214.jpg. Nakano also notes that confirming unfiltered 120-s exposures (limiting mag 19.4-19.5) were taken by K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan, 0.25-m f/5 reflector + SBIG ST-9E CCD camera), yielding mag 16.3 on Feb. 5.710 and 6.664, with position end figures 41s.07 +/- 0s.01, 02".4 +/- 0".2 for 2010U.
