Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, L. Gonzalez, P. Gonzalez, S. Silva, G. Folatelli, R. Cartier, F. Forster, and S. Marchi, Universidad de Chile; G. Pignata and M. Cifuentes, Universidad Andres Bello; B. Conuel, Wesleyan University; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, J. Haislip, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 17.5 +/- 0.4) on an unfiltered image taken on July 14.10 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 1' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which was confirmed at mag approximately 15.5 on July 22.97, is located at R.A. = 16h52m57s.39 +/- 0".1, Decl. = +2o23'16".4 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 22" west and 47" south of the center of the galaxy NGC 6240. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on June 7.13 (limiting mag 18.0) or in a stack five 80-s images taken between Apr. 24.26 and June 5.13 (limiting mag 19.0). The type-IIn supernova 2000bg also appeared in this galaxy (cf. IAUCs 7392, 7394).
