Electronic Telegram No. 2694 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011bl IN UGC 8554 = PSN J13341470+3712348 Further to CBET 2678, I. Nayak, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2011 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2011bl Apr. 5.41 13 34 14.70 +37 12 34.8 16.9 0".4 W, 6".2 N This object was designated PSN J13341470+3712348 when posted on the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011bl based on the spectroscopic report below. Additional unfiltered CCD magnitudes for 2011bl: Mar. 10.46 UT, [19.3 (KAIT); Apr. 6.21, 16.6 (KAIT); 8.232, 16.0 (Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia; remotely using a 51-cm RCOS telescope + STL11K camera at New Mexico Skies Observatory, Mayhill, NM, U.S.A.; position end figures 14s.66, 35".0); 8.335, 16.5 (R. A. Koff, Bennett, CO, U.S.A.; position end figures 14s.60, 33".5). Brimacombe has posted his image at website URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/5602376520/. E. Gall, S. Taubenberger, and I. Maurer, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astrophysik; R. Pakmor, Heidelberger Institut fuer Theoretische Studien; and S. Valenti and S. Benetti, Instituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that optical spectra (range 380-820 nm; resolution 1.1 nm) of PSN J13341470+3712348 = SN 2011bl were obtained with the Ekar-Copernicus 1.82-m telescope (+ AFOSC) on Apr. 11.1 UT. After cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "GELATO" code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; available at website URL https://gelato.tng.iac.es/login.cgi), 2011bl is identified as a very young type-Ib/c supernova, around 10 days before maximum.
