Electronic Telegram No. 2854 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011gk IN UGC 1523 L. Magill and R. Kotak, Queen's University, Belfast, report that an optical spectrogram (range 350-900 nm) of PSN J02021902+1939396 = SN 2011gk (cf. CBET 2845) was obtained at the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC) by M. B. Nielsen on Sept. 29.03 UT. The spectrum was cross-correlated with a library of supernova spectra using the SNID software. The best fit was with a normal type-Ia supernova, similar to SN 2004eo at an epoch of 23 days (Mazzali et al. 2008, MNRAS 386, 1897), in agreement with CBET 2845. Fitting with SNID yields a redshift of 0.045. No Na I D lines are observed at the rest wavelength of the Milky Way. However, there is an Na I D line observed at the rest wavelength of the host galaxy, UGC 1523, suggesting that there is reddening due to the host galaxy, but no reddening due to the Milky Way. The spectral line is found at an uncorrected wavelength of 615.6 nm and was found to have an equivalent width of 0.133 nm.
