Electronic Telegram No. 2911 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011ib IN UGC 6716 Vladimir Lipunov and V. Shumkov, on behalf of the MASTER team, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.8) on ten unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.3) taken with the MASTER-Net auto-detection system (cf. website URL http://observ.pereplet.ru) at Kislovodsk on Nov. 15.08 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 11h44m39s.27, Decl. = +35d58'03".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 27".9 west and 0".7 south of the center of the galaxy UGC 6716. Nothing was visible at this position on a MASTER-Kislovodsk reference image from 2010 Nov. 18.07 (limiting unfiltered mag 19.8). The discovery image is posted at the following website URL: http://observ.pereplet.ru/images/SN114439.27+355803.9/SN114439.27+355803.9.png. S. Valenti, A. Pastorello, S. Benetti, L. Tomasella, F. Bufano, and P. Ochner, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a spectrogram of 2011ib, obtained on Nov. 20.16 UT with the 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 340-790 nm, resolution 2.2 nm), indicates that it is a peculiar type-IIn supernova. The best fit to this spectrum found using a library of supernova spectra via GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; available at URL https://gelato.tng.iac.es/login.cgi) suggests that 2011ib is similar to SN 1998S at a phase of about 2 months after maximum.
