Electronic Telegram No. 2931 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011io Pavel Balanutsa and Vladimir Lipunov, on behalf of the MASTER team (cf. CBETs 2162, 2927), report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.2) on an unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag 19.7) taken on Nov. 27.48 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 23h02m47s.60, Decl. = +8d48'09".8 (equinox 2000.0, presumed), which is 12".4 east and 8".6 south of the center of the presumed host galaxy. Nothing is visible at this position on a MASTER image taken at Kislovodsk on 2010 Sept. 28.80 (limiting mag 19.6). M. Fraser, L. Magill, S. Smartt, and R. Kotak, Queens University, Belfast, report that they obtained a spectrogram (range about 320-910 nm) of 2011io with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC + Grism #4) on Nov. 29.0 UT; when cross-correlated with a range of template spectra using SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), 2011io is a good match to several normal type-Ia supernovae close to maximum light, and at a redshift z about 0.04.
