Electronic Telegram No. 7 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA IN UGC 7224 B. Swift and W. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7906) discovery of an apparent supernova on an unfiltered KAIT image taken on Jan. 13.5 UT (mag about 17.3). The new object was confirmed on an earlier image taken on 2002 Dec. 23.5 UT (mag about 18.5). The supernova is located at R.A. = 12h13m21s.00, Decl. = +21 38'48".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 38".2 east and 44".1 north of the nucleus of UGC 7224. A KAIT image of the same field on 2002 May 14.3 UT showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0).
