Puckett and B. Kerns report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 15.7) on an unfiltered CCD frame taken with the 0.60-m automated supernova patrol telescope on Feb. 23.41 UT. The new object was confirmed on CCD frames taken by A. Sehgal, Osoyoss, BC, with a 0.5-m reflector on Feb. 24.45 at mag 15.7. SN 2005ak is located at R.A. = 14h40m32s.06, Decl. = +3o30'37".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".9 east and 2".9 north of the center of the apparent host galaxy. Nothing is present at this location on images taken by Puckett on 2002 Feb. 13 and 2003 Apr. 1 (limiting mag about 20.0). NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are intended to be preliminary announcements of items that later appear in the formal IAU Circulars. Citations should normally be made to IAUCs rather than to CBETs. (C) Copyright 2005 CBAT 2005 February 25 (CBET 110) Daniel W. E. Green
