Goobar, Stockholm University, report that a spectrum of SN 2005dz (cf. IAUC 8598), obtained by J. Naranen (Helsinki University) on Sept. 12.9 UT with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC; range 350-900 nm), reveals a young type-II supernova with blue continuum and superimposed P-Cyg profiles. The spectrum closely resembles that of SN 1999em around maximum (Hamuy et al. 2001, Ap.J. 558, 615), but the continuum is bluer and the the P-Cyg absorptions more shallow. Adopting a recession velocity of 5692 km/s for the host galaxy (Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287, as quoted by NED), the absorption troughs of H_beta and H_alpha indicate expansion velocity of about 11000 km/s.
