Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley; and T. Matheson, National Optical Astronomy Observatory, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 320-930 nm), obtained on Oct. 7 UT with the Keck I 10-m telescope (+ LRIS), shows that SN 2005ep (IAUC 8607) is of type IIn. Superposed on a very blue continuum are unresolved Balmer emission lines on top of a broader base. The broad component of H-alpha emission has a FWHM of approximately 1000 km/s.
