Prasad and W. Li report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Oct. 12.52 (at mag 18.4) and Oct. 13.53 UT (mag 18.0). SN 2005gn is located at R.A. = 5h48m49s.07, Decl. = -24 22'45".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7".8 east and 0".6 south of the nucleus of ESO 488-G30. KAIT images taken on 2004 Mar. 10.15 (limiting mag 19.0) and 2005 Sept. 12.55 (limiting mag 18.0) showed nothing at this position.
