Baltay, D. Rabinowitz, and A. Bauer, Yale University) reports the discovery of two supernovae on images taken with the Palomar Oschin 1.2-m telescope (+ QUEST II camera) as part of the NEAT component of the Palomar-QUEST survey (cf. CBET 263). Spectra (range 320-1000 nm) obtained with the University of Hawaii 2.2-m telescope (+ Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph) show both objects to be type-Ia supernovae. SN 2005hh, found at magnitude approximately 19.3 (calibrated to R) in an image obtained on Oct. 20.5 UT, is located at R.A. = 4h13m05s.51, Decl. = -25o04'00".5 (equinox 2000.0). A spectrogram obtained on Oct. 24.5 shows 2005hh to be at an approximate redshift of z = 0.065 and about three to four weeks past maximum light. SN 2005hi, found at mag approximately 18.9 on Oct. 23.3, is located at R.A. = 2h41m00s.24, Decl. = +16o42'38".2. A spectrogram from Oct. 24.4 shows 2005hi at redshift z approximately 0.075 and approximately one week after maximum.
