Pastorello, and P. A. Mazzali, Max-Planck- Institut fuer Astrophysik, Garching, on behalf of the European RTN collaboration (cf. IAUC 7987), report that a spectrum of SN 2005kl (cf. CBET 300), obtained on Nov. 24.23 UT by A. Witham and A. Guijarro with the Calar Alto 2.2-m telescope (+ CAFOS; range 340-880 nm), is that of a type-Ic supernova within a few weeks of the explosion. The noisy spectrum reveals that the object is heavily reddened, with probably a few magnitudes of extinction in the V band. Strong P-Cyg features of O I 777.4-nm and the Ca II near-infrared triplet are identified. Also, a weak absorption probably due to Si II 635.5-nm is visible. Strong, narrow emission lines of H I, [N II], and [S II] at the redshift of the host galaxy are superimposed on the spectrum.
