IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2005lx IN IC 221 An apparent supernova has been discovered on unfiltered CCD frames independently by Yoshimi Ichimura (Yoshimi-machi, Hiki-gun, Saitama-ken, Japan, 0.28-m f/5.5 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector; communicated via S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan) and by T. Boles (Coddenham, England, 0.35-m reflector). Boles measured the position of the new object as R.A. = 2h22m39s.01, Decl. = +28o15'07".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 24".8 west and 17".9 south of the center of IC 221. Nakano provides the following position end figures for 2005lx from Ichimura's jpeg image taken on Dec. 19.687 UT: 38s.8, 06" (offset from galaxy center: 27" west, 19".5 south). Position end figures for 2005lx from a CCD image taken R. Kushida through clouds on Dec. 20.417 (0.40-m f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector, Yatsugatake South Base Observatory; measured by Y. Kushida; communicated by Nakano): 38s.95, 08".0. Position end figures for 2005lx from an unfiltered CCD image taken by K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan, 0.25-m f/5 reflector; communicated via Nakano): 39s.00, 07".7. Available magnitudes for 2005lx: 2003 Oct. 30, [18.5 (K. Itagaki, Yamagata, Japan; via Nakano); 2005 Oct. 27, [19.5 (Boles); Nov. 9, [19.5 (Boles); Dec. 19.667, 16.9 (Ichimura; measured by Nakano); 19.954, 18.1 (Boles); 20.401, 17.0 (Ichimura); 20.417, 18.0 (Kushida and Kushida); 20.596, 17.6 (Kadota). Boles adds that nothing is visible at the location of 2005lx on Digitized Sky Survey images from 1989 (limiting red mag 21.0) and 1987 (limiting blue mag 20.5).
