Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006V (cf. IAUC 8667), obtained by M. Calkins on Feb. 7.46 UT with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-II supernova past maximum light. The spectrum consists of P-Cyg profiles of the Balmer series and other lines. Adopting the recession velocity of 4745 km/s for the host galaxy (from Falco et al. 2000, The Updated Zwicky Catalog, vol. 1), the maximum absorption in H_alpha is blueshifted by roughly 4000 km/s. Interstellar Na I D absorption at the redshift of the host galaxy is visible in the spectrum with an equivalent width of around 0.5 nm.
