Electronic Telegram No. 454 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2006bb IN UGC 4468 K. Kinugasa, Gunma Astronomical Observatory (GAO); and H. Yamaoka, Kyushu University, write that a low-resolution spectrogram (range 450-750 nm) of SN 2006bb (cf. IAUC 8693) was obtained with the GAO 1.5-m telescope on Mar. 31.6 UT. The spectrum shows deep and broad absorption lines at (observed wavelengths) 622, 575, and around 500 nm (`W'-shaped), which suggests that 2006bb is a type-Ic supernova around maximum light. Adopting a recession velocity of 7563 km/s for UGC 4468 (from Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438), the expansion velocity, assuming that the 622-nm feature corresponds to the Si II 635.5-nm line, is 14000 km/s.
