Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006bv (cf. CBET 493), obtained on Apr. 30.14 UT by W. Brown with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows this supernova to be a type-IIn supernova around maximum light. The spectrum consists of a blue continuum and narrow emission lines of the Balmer series (e.g., H_alpha, 400 km/s FWHM), characteristic of type-IIn supernovae.
