Phillips, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report spectroscopic observations of 2006ms (cf. CBET 725) obtained at Las Campanas Observatory with the Magellan II (Clay) telescope (+ LDSS3 spectrograph; range 380-990 nm) and the du Pont telescope (+ WFCCD spectrograph; range 380-920 nm) on Nov. 9.17 and 16.02 UT, respectively, allowing its classification as a young type-II supernova. The spectrum obtained on Nov. 16.02 shows a blue continuum with Balmer and metallic P-Cyg lines and is very similar to that of SN 1999em at an age of 20 days after explosion, as determined by means of the 'superfit' spectrum comparison code (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190). Adopting for the host galaxy a recession velocity of 4857 km/s (da Costa et al. 1991, Ap.J. Suppl. 75, 935), an approximate expansion velocity of 6000 km/s is derived from the minimum of the H-beta absorption.
