Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 15.9) on ten unfiltered 20- to 60-s CCD exposures taken around Jan. 7.86 UT using a 0.30-m f/7.8 reflector at his Takane station in Tochigi-ken; 2007C is located at R.A. = 13h08m49s.30, Decl. = -6o47'01".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 9" east and 22" south of the center of NGC 4981. Nothing is visible at this location on Itagaki's many past frames (limiting mag 19.0), with his most recent survey frame taken on 2006 Dec. 23.87 (nothing visible to mag 18.5); also, nothing appears at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey. A confirming image by Itagaki from Jan. 8.71 yields position end figures 49s.31, 46'59".9 and magnitude 15.8 for 2007C. K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan) reports position end figures 49s.32, 47'00".3 (and offset 8".3 east, 21" south) and mag 16.0 from an unfiltered CCD exposure taken with a 0.25-cm f/5 reflector on Jan. 8.704.
