Naito, Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory, reports the discovery an apparent supernova (R about 18.6) in R-band CCD images taken with the 2.0-m NAYUTA telescope (+ MINT) on Sept. 10.74 UT. SN 2007ig is located at R.A. = 1h32m19s.81, Decl. = -7o51'35".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 9" west and 2" south of the nucleus of MCG -01-5-2. There is nothing at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey R-band image or the NED archive image taken with the CFHT 3.6-m telescope (no limiting-magnitude information provided). Following posting of this object on the CBAT unconfirmed-objects webpage, L. Boldt, C. Contreras, and G. Folatelli, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report their confirmation of 2007ig on u'-, g'-, r'-, i'-, B-, and V-band images obtained by W. Krzeminski on Sept. 11.3 UT with the 1-m Swope telescope (+ CCD camera) at Las Campanas Observatory. They provide position end figures 19s.79, 36".4 for the new object. B-band photometry was derived relative to two field stars of the USNO-B1 catalogue, yielding magnitude B = 19.4 +/- 0.1.
