Mahabal, S. G. Djorgovski, A. J. Drake, M. J. Graham, R. Williams, and R. Quimby, California Institute of Technology; A. Myers, University of Illinois; E. C. Beshore and S. M. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the discovery of a supernova in the course of the Catalina Sky Survey from multiple sequences of unfiltered CCD exposures taken with the 0.7-m f/1.9 Catalina Schmidt telescope (+ 4000x4000 camera): SN 2008 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. 2008ck Apr. 27.41 15 22 42.30 +30 22 08.0 19.3 A possible host galaxy (with Gunn magnitude r about 21.7) is seen in Sloan Digital Sky Survey images. Spectroscopy using the Double Beam Spectrograph at the Palomar 5-m reflector on May 6 shows 2008ck to be a type-Ia supernova at about 2 weeks past maximum (with z about 0.065).
