Newton, Portal, AZ, U.S.A.; and T. Puckett, Ellijay, GA, U.S.A., report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.2) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.3) taken with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal on Jan. 28.42 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 16.1 on images (limiting mag 18.9) taken by T. Orff on Jan. 29.43 with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal. SN 2009P is located at R.A. = 11h20m38s.78, Decl. = -3o32'46".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 2".7 east and 0".2 south of the center of the apparent host galaxy. Nothing is visible at this position on images taken by Puckett on 2008 Apr. 30 (limiting mag 19.0).
