Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.8 +/- 0.2) on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Aug. 18.123 UT at the Bronberg Observatory; a confirming image on Aug. 19.132 showed the object slightly brighter at mag 17.6 (+/- 0.1). The new object is located at R.A. = 4h24m36s.73, Decl. = -57d59'06".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 10" east and 16" south of the core of the galaxy IC 2070. Nothing is visible at this position in Digitized Sky Survey images (limiting red mag 20.5) or on Monard's image from 2009 July 17.141 (limiting mag 18.8).
