K. W. Kleiser, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on June 29 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2009gl (CBET 1860) is a type-IIb supernova; cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2009gl is about 10 days past maximum brightness. SN 2009gq (CBET 1861) is a normal type-Ia supernova that SNID indicates is about three weeks past maximum; narrow emission features in a spectrum of the supernova's host galaxy reveal it to have a recession velocity of about 20000 km/s.
