Electronic Telegram No. 2362 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Room 209; Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbat@iau.org; cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2010fy J. L. Prieto, Carnegie Observatories; and L. A. G. Monard, Pretoria, S. Africa, report that they obtained on July 9.4 UT an optical spectrum (range 370-920 nm; resolution 0.7 nm) of 2010fy (cf. CBET 2359) with WFCCD mounted on the du Pont 2.5-m telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. The spectrum shows that 2010fy is a type-Ia supernova at maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2010fy is most similar to the normal type-Ia supernova 1990N at 3 days after maximum light. The redshift obtained by SNID from the supernova features is z = 0.049 +/- 0.004.
