Electronic Telegram No. 2894 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011hg IN UGC 12410 G. H. Marion, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 340-740 nm) of SN 2011hg (cf. CBET 2887) was obtained on Nov. 2 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2011hg is a type-IIb supernova several days before maximum light. SNID finds that the best fit is to a template from the type-IIb supernova 2003bg at 7 days before maximum. In addition to P-Cyg features from the Balmer lines, He I 587.6-nm forms a clear absorption feature. Based on a redshift of z = 0.023636 for UGC 12410, as reported in NED (Giovanelli et al. 1997, A.J. 114, 122), the velocity of the minimum of the H-alpha absorption is measured to be 14400 km/s and He I 587.6-nm to be 11500.
