Electronic Telegram No. 2961 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. H. Marion, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that an object posted on the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage (and there designated PSN J11554551+5519320 when reported as a discovery by Y. Ohshima on Nov. 25, long after the object originally designated PSN J11554556+5519338 had been announced as SN 2011by on CBET 2708) was observed spectroscopically on Nov. 26 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). The spectrum (range 340-740 nm) was compared via cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), revealing that the object is a type-Ia supernova about six months after maximum light, which is consistent with the age of SN 2011by. The report on Nov. 25 from S. Nakano (Sumoto, Japan) of a discovery of this object by Yuji Ohshima (Yoshida, Nagano) gave mag 17.1 on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 18.5) taken on Nov. 25.739 UT using an Orion 0.30-m f/4.5 reflector (+ SBIG STL-11000M camera); the position was given as R.A. = 11h55m45s.51, Decl. = +55d19'32".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3" east and 17" north of the center of the galaxy NGC 3972. J. Brimacombe (Cairns, Australia) reported magnitude 18.4 on Nov. 26.425 from an image taken using a luminance filter, posting his image at the following website URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/6408920801/.
