Electronic Telegram No. 5062 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network OCTOBER ZETA PERSEID METEOR SHOWER D. Vida, University of Western Ontario; and D. Segon, Croatian Meteor Network, report an outburst of meteors with a radiant in Perseus: fourteen meteors were observed by the Global Meteor Network low-light video cameras on Oct. 24 (cf. website URL https://globalmeteornetwork.org/data/ for the date of 2021 Oct. 24). The shower was independently observed by cameras in seven different countries (Czechia, Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Croatia, and the UK). The meteors (all brighter than magnitude 0) had a median radiant with coordinates R.A. = 58.19 deg, Decl. = +33.72 deg (equinox J2000.0; within a circle with a standard deviation of +/- 0.51 deg). The median sun-centered ecliptic coordinates were L-L0 = 211.86 deg, beta = +13.16 deg. The geocentric velocity was 48.1 +/- 0.8 km/s. The orbital elements are those of a sunskirting long-period comet: q = 0.082 +/- 0.003 AU, e = 0.998 +/- 0.005, i = 65.2 +/- 2.5 deg, Peri. = 326.8 +/- 0.8 deg, Node = 211.377 +/- 0.030 deg (equinox J2000.0). All meteors appeared during the solar-longitude interval 211.30-211.42 degrees, with a sharp peak at 211.36 degrees (50 precent of the meteors were observed in 30 minutes, while the whole activity lasted 3 hours). A parent-body search based on orbital elements did not return any candidates. The shower is now listed as number 1131 in the IAU Working List of Meteor Showers and named the October zeta Persieds (OZP).
