POSSIBLE COMET
R. D. Eberst, Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, writes that the
trail of a comet has been found by I. Coulson, University of Edinburgh,
and himself on a 60-min exposure by S. Tritton with the U.K.
122-cm Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring as follows:
1976 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1
Oct. 16.583 23 44.4 -12 30 ~17
Daily motion: dR.A. = -0m.54, dDecl. = -8'; the sense of motion is not
completely certain, but the eastern (i.e., beginning) end of the trail
is denser than the western. The object is diffuse with condensation
and a possible tail extending perhaps 0'.3 just north of east.
COMET SCHUSTER (1976c)
The following precise positions were obtained by P. M.
Kilmartin with the 61-cm reflector at Mount John University
Observatory. The images of the comet were very faint.
