NOVA SAGITTARII 1978 = IRC -20494 = V3876 SAGITTARII
     R. D. Gehrz, G. L. Grasdalen, J. A. Hackwell and D. McClain,
Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Wyoming, point
out that this 'nova' is certainly identical with IRC -20494, for
which they have determined (using the 234-cm Wyoming Infrared Telescope)
the position R.A. = 18h30m14s.9 +/- 0s.2, Decl. = -20o08'11" +/- 3"
(equinox 1950.0). Infrared observations on Apr. 20.46 UT gave the
following magnitudes: 2.3 um, 2.46; 3.6 um, 1.90; 4.9 um, 1.84; 8.6 um,
1.47; 10 um, 1.11; 11.4 um, 0.80; 12.6 um, 0.75; 19.5 um, 0.70.

     C. B. Stephenson, Warner and Swasey Observatory, informs us
that IRC -20494 is identical with the long-period variable V3876
Sgr (cf. Third Supplement to GCVS; Hoffleit 1972, Inf. Bull.
Variable Stars No. 729; Stephenson and Sanduleak 1976, ibid. No. 1213).
