ESO 103-G35
     F. R. Feldman, Yale University; F. E. Marshall, Goddard Space
Flight Center; and M. M. Phillips, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory,
report that spectra obtained with the SIT-vidicon spectrometer
on the CTIO 150-cm telescope show the nucleus of the
fifteenth-magnitude galaxy ESO 103-G35 to have an emission-line
spectrum characteristic of a type I Seyfert. Strong, high-excitation
forbidden lines are observed. The redshift is approximately
z = 0.013. ESO 103-G35 lies within the HEAO-A2 error box for the
x-ray source H 1834-653. The calculated x-ray luminosity is consistent
with the observed H-alpha luminosity, when compared with other
known Seyfert type I galaxies, and supports the identification of
this galaxy with the x-ray source.

SUPERNOVA IN ESO 290-G50
     W. Zealey, U.K. Schmidt Telescope Unit, informs us that spectra
of the supernova announced on IAUC 3282 were obtained by R. F.
Carswell and M. G. Smith with the Anglo-Australian Telescope on
Sept. 28. The parent galaxy has a redshift of z = 0.07 and is at a
distance of 420 Mpc (for Hubble's constant 50 km s**-1 Mpc**-1). The
supernova shows the general characteristics of a type I event with
absolute magnitude -19.2.

SPECTROSCOPIC OBSERVATIONS OF COMETS
     S. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, reports that
spectrograms (range 3000-5500 A) of P/Ashbrook-Jackson (1977g) and
P/Giclas (1978k), obtained with the 154-cm reflector at the Catalina
Station on Oct. 8.25 UT, show only solar-reflection spectra.

NOTICE CONCERNING TELEGRAMAS
As noted with the bills issued on Oct. 3 subscribers to the
telegrams are requested to inform the Central Bureau by Oct. 31 of
any changes they may wish to make in the categories of message they
receive. This applies particularly to deletions, address changes
and changes in the manner telegrams are received. U.S. and Canadian
subscribers to these Circulars are advised that the more urgent
information can be relayed to them by mailgram for only $2.00
(a reduction from the former $3.00) per message.
