(1537) TRANSYLVANIA AND (452) HAMILTONIA
     L. K. Kristensen, University of Aarhus, telexes that he has
identified the long-lost minor planet (1537) Transylvania with A903 VB,
thereby confirming the ephemeris on IAUC 3572 and the correctness
of the following recovery observations:

     1981 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. Mag. Observer
     Feb. 15.53474 14 16 31.56 -15 42 12.0 18 Gibson
     Apr. 10.29869 13 57 50.17 -13 57 51.3 Shao
          11.25388 13 57 09.80 -13 53 55.9 "

J. Gibson (Palomar Mountain Observatory). 1.2-m Schmidt. An exposure
of inferior quality on Feb. 16 did not show the object.
C.-Y. Shao (Agassiz Station). 1.5-m reflector. Questionable Image
obtained in very poor conditions on Apr. 10; ink dot measured.

     The ephemeris continues as follows:

     1981 ET R. A. (1950) Decl. Delta r Mag.
     Apr. 26 13 46.56 -12 47.9 2.927 3.929 18.0
     May 6 13 39.62 -12 02.2
          16 13 33.54 -11 19.7 2.998 3.915 18.4
          26 13 28.72 -10 43.5
     June 5 13 25.42 -10 15.8 3.171 3.898 18.6
          15 13 23.78 - 9 57.9
          25 13 23.81 - 9 50.1 3.411 3.879 18.8
     July 5 13 25.44 - 9 52.1
          15 13 28.57 -10 03.5 3.683 3.858 19.0

Kristensen also informs us that he has identified (452) Hamiltonia,
lost since its discovery opposition in 1899-1900, with 1973
FZ1 and 1958 BK, and a further identification with 1978 GA3 was
then found by the undersigned. The identification with 1973 FZ1
had independently been suggested by E. Bowell, Lowell Observatory.
The identification (452) = 1940 EF (MPC 1182) is invalid.

Further details of the computations will appear on the May 1
batch of MPCs. As a result of the above recovery and identifications
there remain only nine numbered minor planets (out of a total
of 2368) which are known only to have been observed at their discovery
oppositions. The nine objects are (330) Adalberta, (473)
Nolli, (719) Albert, (724) Hapag, (843) Nicolaia, (878) Mildred,
(1009) Sirene, (1026) Ingrid and (1179) Mally.
