     P. Ubertini, A. Bazzano, C. La Padula and V. F. Polcaro, Istituto
di Astrofisica Spaziale, Frascati, telex: "We announce the detection
of hard x-rays (15-150 keV) from the region of the soft-x-ray
source 4U 0515+38. The measurement was performed by means of a
balloon-borne xenon-filled mulitiwire spectroscopic proportional
counter with geometric area 27 m**2 and a spectral resolution of 13
percent at 60 keV; the limited passive tin-copper collimator had a
full-width-at-half-maximum field of view of 5o x 5o. The balloon
was released on 1980 Aug. 10 from Milo, Sicily, and reached a ceiling
altitude corresponding to 3 mb. An excess flux corresponding
to the transit of a point source, located near R.A. = 5h16m, Decl. = +38o,
was detected. The spectrum detected was deconvolved and the best
fit found by standard procedures. The minimum chi**2 corresponds to a
power law dN/dE = k exp (-A), with k = 3.1 + 3.8 - 2.3, A = 1.56 + 0.44 - 0.32.
