PERIODIC COMET SLAUGHTER-BURNHAM (1981i)
This comet has been recovered by G. Schwartz and C.-Y. Shao
with the 1.5-m reflector at the Oak Ridge Observatory (formerly the
Harvard College Observatory's Agassiz Station):

     1981 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1
     July 9.28863 0 50 42.84 + 6 32 07.5 20
          10.30329 0 51 38.22 + 6 40 55.2
          28.29563 1 05 47.44 + 9 07 19.6 19.5

On the July 28 exposure the comet's image was slightly diffuse,
with condensation. The indicated correction to the prediction on
MPC 5655 (elements on Nakano Note No. 379) is Delta-T = +0.10 day.

COMET BRADFIELD (1980t)
     C. B. Cosmovici, Institut fur Optoelektronik, Wessling, reports
that observations made in January with the 1.22-m and 1.82-m
telescopes at the Asiago Astrophysical Observatory have led to the
identification of 20 CO lines in the visible spectrum of this comet;
they belong to the triplet and to the Asundi systems. Absolute
fluxes could be determined for six lines in the red: the (3-0)
transition at 721 nm has a flux of 1.1 x 10**-6 J m**-2 s**-1 sr**-1. H2S+
at 450.9 nm is possibly also present.
     L. Pansecchi requests that anyone who obtained a wide-field
photograph of this comet between Jan. 15.20 and 15.46 UT send a
copy of it to him at Osservatorio S. Vittore, via S. Vittore 44,
I-40136 Bologna, Italy.
The following precise positions have been obtained by Schwartz
and Shao at Oak Ridge Observatory. Little, if any, diffuseness was
present. For an ephemeris see MPC 5851.

     1981 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1
     June 29.29641 22 01 20.20 +16 31 17.2 18.5
     July 7.29499 21 50 12.78 +16 04 52.8

SUPERNOVA IN NGC 1532
     R. Evans, Maclean, N.S.W., writes that after the initial decline
this object faded by less than 0.5 mag during Mar. 8-Apr. 8.

1981 July 31 (3621) Brian G. Marsden
