SUPERNOVA IN MCG 8-15-47
     E. P. Aksenov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, communicates
a report from Yu. V. Terebizh, Crimean Southern Station, that N.
Metlova has discovered a supernova 24" east and 19" south of the
nucleus of MCG 8-15-47 (R.A. = 8h07m7, Decl. = +46deg37', equinox 1950.0).
On Mar. 30.83 UT the photographic magnitude was 16.0.

PERIODIC COMET GIACOBINI-ZINNER (1984e)
This comet has been recovered by S. Djorgovski, H. Spinrad,
G. Will and M. J. S. Belton on TI-CCD exposures obtained on Apr. 3
with the 4-m reflector at Kitt Peak National Observatory. The
subsequent recognition of two earlier images confirms the recovery
and that the comet's position is in very close agreement with the
predicted elements by D. K. Yeomans on MPC 8289. Details follow:

R. M. West and H. Pedersen (European Southern Observatory). 1.5-
Danish reflector and CCD. Position is mean of three exposures
of 30-min duration each. Seeing ~ 1" , nicely round images, near
limit, mag 24.5+ (filter range 400-700 nm).
M. J. S. Belton and P. A. Wehinger (Kitt Peak). No. 1 0.91-m
reflector and RCA CCD. Two unresolved images, integrations 30
   and 40 min, mag ~ 23 (Mould R filter, range 600-700 nm).
S. Djorgovski et al. (Kitt Peak). Four 2.5-min integrations.
   Images of stellar appearance. R = 22.9 +/- 0.1 (Bessel).
