COMET SHOEMAKER (1984f)
Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker report their discovery of a
comet with the 0.46-m Schmidt telescope at Palomar as follows:

          1984 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. m1

          May 27.394 16 37.0 +13 53 14
               29.368 16 34.6 +13 48

The object is diffuse and moderately condensed, with fanshaped coma
structure to the north.

SUPERNOVA IN ESO 323-G99
     M. M. Phillips and J. A. Graham, Cerro Tololo Interamerican
Observatory, report preliminary estimates on May 23.25 UT of V =
15.7, B-V = +0.6, for the supernova reported on IAUC 3944. A red
spectrogram was most consistent with type I classification.
Interstellar Na D absorption was detected near zero redshift.

1984 May 30 (3946) Brian G. Marsden
