PERIODIC COMET GEHRELS 3 (1984l)
     J. Gibson reports his recovery of this comet on exposures
with the 1.2-m Schmidt at Palomar as shown below.  The images are
stellar within the limitations of seeing and guiding.

     The following orbital elements have been derived by the
undersigned from 34 observations 1975-1984 with full perturbations:

         T = 1985 June 3.3883 ET     Epoch = 1985 May 15.0 ET
     Peri. = 231.3037                    e =   0.149292
     Node  = 242.4493   1950.0           a =   4.046316 AU
     Incl. =   1.0998                    n =   0.1210917
         q =   3.442235 AU               P =   8.139 years


PERIODIC COMET TAKAMIZAWA (1984j)
    Total visual magnitude estimates: Aug. 8.83 UT, 9.5 (R. H.
McNaught, Siding Spring Observatory, 20 x 120 binoculars); 18.19,
10.0 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 0.32-m reflector); 19.11, 10.1
(Bortle); 21.29, 10.4 (C. S. Morris, Whitaker Peak, CA, 0.25-m
reflector). An exposure by J. Gibson with the 1.2-m Palomar Schmidt
on Aug. 21.44 UT shows a jet ~ 9" long in p.a. 80-85.
