1985 JA
     C. Shoemaker has discovered a fast-moving asteroidal object
on exposures by E. Shoemaker and herself with the 0.46-m Schmidt
at Palomar. The following positions (the May 11 observation being
a prediscovery) have been measured by S. J. Bus and F. Salazar
with the PDS scanning microdensitometer at the Lowell Observatory:

     1985 UT             R.A.   (1950.0)    Decl.      Mag.

     May  11.33542     15 17 40.58     -22 17 39.2
          14.33194     15 13 30.17     -16 50 18.5     16.5
          14.35833     15 13 27.97     -16 47 32.1
          15.41181     15 12 07.84     -14 58 27.0

     The following orbital elements are from the above
observations. The data in the right-hand column are uncertain:

          T = 1985 Mar. 9.406 ET
      Peri. = 307.096                    e =   0.58573

      Incl. =  48.509                    n =   0.191637
          q =   1.23434 AU               P =   5.14 years

PERIODIC COMET TSUCHINSHAN 2 (1985d)
     J. Gibson, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, reports his recovery of
this comet with the 1.6-m Palomar reflector and CCD as follows:

     1985 UT             R.A.   (1950.0)    Decl.       m2

     Apr. 10.16944      4 03 38.74     +22 54 37.2     22
          10.17333      4 03 39.36     +22 54 38.4
     May   8.16431      5 11 47.26     +24 00 36.6     21.5
           8.16806      5 11 47.92     +24 00 36.9

The object is stellar within the limits of seeing and close to
the prediction on MPC 7658 (ephemeris on MPC 9163).

1985 May 20                    (4063)              Brian G. Marsden
