PERIODIC COMET GICLAS (1985g)
This comet has been recovered by E. Everhart on an exposure
by J. Briggs and by C.-Y. Shao on exposures by G. Schwartz:

    1985 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. m1 Observer

    June 22.38646 0 53 11.05 - 0 36 55.6 20 Everhart
    July 18.30242 1 43 07.71 + 2 36 51.6 18 Shao
         21.30067 1 48 45.37 + 2 55 06.1 18 "

E. Everhart (Chamberlin Observatory field station, near Denver).
0.4-m reflector. Weak image, unconfirmed at the time.
C.-Y. Shao (Oak Ridge Observatory). 1.5-m reflector. Plates very
dark; inkdot measured on July 18. The comet's image is strongly
condensed, possibly even stellar in appearance.

The above positions show that the prediction by S. Nakano on
MPC 9362 (elements on MPC 8289) requires correction by Delta-T = -0.66
day. An improved ephemeris follows:

     1985 ET R.A. (1950.0) Decl. p r m1

CPD -58 2721
     J. S. Drilling, Louisiana State University; U. Heber, Universitat
Kiel; and C. S. Jeffery, St. Andrews University, report that
the extreme helium star CPD -58 2721 (Drilling 1980, Ap.J. 242,
L43) has changed in radial velocity by 138 +/- 10 km/s between 1983
May 30.1 and 1985 Apr. 9.1 UT. This result is based on high-
resolution spectra obtained at Cerro Tololo, the European Southern
Observatory and with the Anglo-Australian Telescope, and it suggests
that CPD -58 2721 is an H-deficient binary like nu Sgr and KS Per.
