The following observations are available: 1986 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. m1 Observer May 12.453 0 40.8 +38 36 11.0 Machholz 13.434 0 34.4 +39 15 Morris 13.453 0 33.8 +39 16 10.8 Machholz 13.476 0 34.2 +39 14 9.7 Morris D. E. Machholz (Loma Prieta, CA). 29 x 130 binoculars. Object diffuse without condensation, no tail. C. S. Morris (near Mt. Wilson, CA). 0.25-m reflector. Coma diameter 2'5, some condensation. A visual estimate by A. Hale (same time and location, 0.20-m reflector) gave m1 = 9.8. PERIODIC COMET SINGER BREWSTER (1986d) The following precise positions have been reported: 1986 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. m1 Observer May 8.30486 14 47 54.57 - 5 45 12.8 Tatum 8.52307 14 47 48.71 - 5 42 59.8 16 Gilmore 8.54280 14 47 48.34 - 5 42 48.4 " 9.19961 14 47 30.17 - 5 36 51.4 Schwartz J. B. Tatum (University of Victoria). A. C. Gilmore and P. M. Kilmartin (Mount John Observatory). G. Schwartz (Oak Ridge Observatory). Measurer: C.-Y. Shao. Further computations confirm that this is a short-period comet. A close approach to Jupiter in 1976 is indicated.
